Guide: Orca

Orcas seen better days when their hangar was non-scannable. They are still having lots of cargo space, including an ore hold and a fleet hangar and pretty nice tank. However bump-tackle seriously decreased their ability to haul and the buffing of DSTs made it mostly obsolete. However you can still haul in them, just be very sure you have no better options. As always, the purpose of the fit is not maximum tank, but fighting against bumping:

[Orca, Hauler]
Damage Control II
Reinforced Bulkheads II
500MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

The 310 m/s speed with cap-stable MWD provides some ability to get away from bumpers and to float out of optimal of catalysts. However I'd repeat to think again before using it for anything but hauling not too expensive assembled ships. CCP released a new ship of this type, the Bowhead, which is even slower, max 200 m/s. Don't ever use that damn thing, you are much better off flying your expensive ships by themselves!

Finally, how can you protect your fleet booster Orca, especially since CCP is planning to make links grid-only. Since you can't fit MWD next to the link modules and with AB it only goes 130 m/s, if someone wants it to be dead, it is. However, by keeping the holds clear, you can make the job of the gankers pointless enough to leave this ship alone:

[Orca, Booster, 3% CPU implant needed]
Damage Control II
Reinforced Bulkheads II
X-Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 400
Caldari Navy Thermic Dissipation Field
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization II
Siege Warfare Link - Shield Harmonizing II
Mining Foreman Link - Mining Laser Field Enhancement II
Large Transverse Bulkhead II
Large Transverse Bulkhead II
Large Transverse Bulkhead II
Vespa EC-600 x5

Since Orcas are expensive ships, consider getting a Syndicate Damage Control for 15K more EHP.

This post is part of the guide "why was I ganked?"
